I do mostly conceptual ethical research on algorithmic decision-making, artificial intelligence, data ethics, and informed consent in an age of digital medicine. Recently, I have expanded my research interests to methodological issues in bioethics, especially non-empirical methods and digital bioethics.

History of Medicine

Some years ago, history of medicine in antiquity was my primary area of interest. I published on questions of historical urology, rheumatology, dermatology, venereology, occupational medicine, as well as on diseases of civilization and affluence. Over time, I extended the chronological frame by also researching the history of medicine of the early modern period. The most recent historical papers cover also the 19th and 20th century. The time will come when I intesify my research on the history medicine again. Occasionally, I publish reviews of books on ancient history.

Academic Work

since 2021
Research Associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter)
Institute for Ethics, History and Philosophy of Medicine
Hannover Medical School, Germany

2016 – 2021
Research Associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter)
Institute of the History, Philosophy and Ethics of Medicine
Ulm University, Germany

2015 – 2016
Research Associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter)
Institute for History and Ethics of Medicine
Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany

Education

2025
Habilitation with a venia legendi in „Ethics, History and Philosophy of Medicine“ with a work on „Ethische Herausforderungen der Diagnostik mit Künstlicher Intelligenz: Informierte Einwilligung und Explizierbarkeit in der klinischen Anwendung“
Hannover Medical School, Germany

2011 – 2016
PhD in Ancient History with a work on „Freiheit, Herrschaft, Widerstand.
